The haunted tales of Minnesota

The lights were dimmed at the RTR library as author Chad Lewis spoke about a few of the “haunted locations” he has visited throughout Minnesota.

From Lamberton to Pipestone and locations around the state, Lewis said there are a lot of ghost stories to be found in Minnesota.

Lewis is the co-author of The Minnesota Road Guide to Haunted Locations, a book that gives readers a look at ghost stories from around Minnesota with research into its origins.

Lewis said he isn’t trying to convince anyone about the existence of the supernatural, he wants to give people as much information so they can decide for themselves.

“The approach I take is welcoming,” said Lewis. “I tell people I’m going to provide them with the best research that I can, the background, history and lore. I’m going to leave it up to them to go to these places and have their own adventure.”

Lewis said there are a lot of ghost stories around southwestern Minnesota.

Lewis said his interest doesn’t just center around the paranormal, he also enjoys learning about the history of the places he visits.

Lewis said he explored Tyler Monday before his presentation.

“This whole area has so much history,” said Lewis. “Even walking around in town with the old bank and hardware store, the history is all there and that’s part of the fun, keeping the history alive.”

After his presentation, that included stories of serial killers, mobsters and haunted dolls, Lewis encouraged the audience to explore Minnesota’s historic sites.

He said you never know when you might run into a spirit.

Stories of possibly haunted theaters, questions about the paranormal and other spooky subjects rounded out the presentation.

The presentation was sponsored by the Tyler Arts Council and the Tyler Community Education program.
