October brings shorter days and longer, spookier nights, complete with little ghosts, goblins and ghouls parading through the city on the last day of the month.

It’s a time filled with ghost stories and scary movies. Some are “real,” while others are completely fictionalized.

You can make up your own mind what to make of the tales told Saturday night at the Hotel Alex Johnson Ballroom, as The Unexplained Conference will be held at 7 p.m. Paranormal researcher, TV and radio host and spooky guy Chad Lewis will lead the conference and will discuss the most haunted places in the Black Hills. Lewis will also autograph copies of his books, including “The South Dakota Guide to Haunted Locations,” and lead a tour of the reportedly haunted rooms in the hotel. The hotel’s eighth floor has been the scene of numerous eerie sightings over the years and some staff members and guests have claimed to see spirits.

Terry Fisk will speak on the afterlife through history and paranormal investigators Noah Voss and Kevin Lee Nelson will field questions on UFOs and strange sightings in the area.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $9 at the door, $6 for children 12 and under and can be bought in advance or at the door. For more information, call (605) 342-1210, 271-1831, 1-800-888-ALEX (2539) or go to www.unexplainedresearch.com.
