Michigan Island Lighthouse

The Reputed History:   

Several years ago, a lighthouse keeper was killed when a heavy metal door slammed shut on him during a storm.  His ghost has haunted the lighthouse ever since.

  • Placed in service 1857
  • Abandoned 1858
  • Re-lit 1869
  • Retired 1929
  • Preserved, guided tours available
The Reputed Phenomena:  

During every bad storm, this same door will open and slam shut twice, even if it is firmly closed and bolted.
