About 40 years ago, a railroad brakeman was killed in this area when he was crushed between two railroad cars, and the spook light is the signal lantern that his ghost waves back and forth.

We were unable to verify the story of a railroad brakeman being killed in this area.

The mysterious light appears each night as soon as the sun goes down. 

The Investigation: 

At one time, Ripley's Believe It Or Not offered $100,000 to anyone who could explain the light. 

Using a telescope, we were able to identify the light as being the headlights and taillights of cars in the distance.  The cars were driving on a hill north of Paulding on Hwy 45.

According to one researcher we spoke to, the light that people are currently seeing is not the Paulding Light.  The actual Paulding Light has not appeared in over three years.
